2015 The Big One - Nov 7, 2015

Memphis Fencers alum and Boston College Fencing Team Captain Peter Wetzel (all left) - proudly wears the Gold Medal for First Place in Senior Men’s Epee after beating 83 other fencers at ‘The Big One’ - a Fall Invitational competition perennially hosted by Smith College in Northampton, MA on the first Saturday in November. This event is run similar to a USA Fencing six-weapon open tournament. Fencers compete as individuals, but must represent a member institution. Occasionally, teams from institutions from outside the conference are invited to compete in this tournament.

Unfortunately, collegiate/NCAA fencing competitions are not USFA-sanctioned events so winning these competitions do not gain fencers new ratings or else Peter would have earned an ‘A’. Next time!
